Global Covid cases top 624 million

The overall number of global Covid cases has crossed 624 million. According to the latest global data, the total case count mounted to 624,142,119 while the death toll from the virus reached 6,552,954 on Wednesday morning, report AP.
The US has recorded 98,308,956 cases so far and 1,085,366 people have died from the virus in the country, both highest counts around the world.
India on Tuesday reported 1,968 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total tally to 44,599,466.
The South Asian country also logged 15 more Covid-related deaths in 24 hours, taking the death toll to 528,716 since the beginning of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, the Chinese mainland on Tuesday reported 223 locally transmitted confirmed Covid-19 cases, including 64 in Inner Mongolia and 34 in Guangdong, according to the National Health Commission's report Wednesday. Tuesday saw no new deaths from Covid-19, with the total death toll at 5,226.
Covid in Bangladesh
Bangladesh reported another Covid-linked death, with 657 fresh cases in 24 hours till Tuesday morning.
The country's total fatalities rose to 29,372 with the new death of a woman from Mymensingh.
The new cases brought the country's total caseload to 2,027,565, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). The daily case test positivity rate was 13.8 percent.
The mortality rate and recovery rate remained unchanged at 1.45 percent and 97.02 percent, respectively.
Bangladesh registered its highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year and highest fatalities of 264 on August 10 the same year.
