OC Pradeep, SI Liaqat to die in Sinha murder case

A Cox's Bazar court on Monday awarded death penalty to former OC of Teknaf Police Station Pradeep Kumar Das and police inspector Liakat Ali for killing Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan.
The court also sentenced six others to life term imprisonment.
Cox's Bazar District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Ismail handed down verdict over the much-talked murder case.
Besides, the court acquitted seven others as allegation brought against them could not be proven. The accused were brought to the court from Cox's Bazar district jail around 2:00pm.
Earlier in the day, security was beefed up at the court premises since this morning following the verdict.
The 15 accused are then Inspector Liakat Ali, head of Baharchhara Investigation Centre; former Officer-in-Charge of Teknaf Police Station Pradeep Kumar Das; bodyguard Rubel Sharma; dismissed Sub-Inspector (SI) Nandadulal; dismissed constables Safanur Karim, Kamal Hossain, Abdullah Al Mamun, Sagor Deb, Md Rajib, Md Abdullah; dismissed Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Liton Mia; dismissed APBn Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Shahjahan; Nurul Amin; Md Nezamuddin; and Ayaz Uddin.
On June 27, 2021, the Court of Cox's Bazar District and Sessions framed charges against them.
Sinha's elder sister filed the murder case with Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court against Pradeep, Nandadulal and several others on August 5 in 2020.
Police personnel are controlling traffic movement in the court building area.
