Actor Sohel Chowdhury murder case: Arrest warrant issued against Aziz Mohammad Bhai

A Dhaka tribunal on Sunday cancelled the bails of three people, including businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai and issued arrest warrants against them in a case filed over the murder of actor Sohel Chowdhury in December 1998. The two other accused are Afakul Islam alias Bunty Islam and Selim Khan.

Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-2, Judge Md Zakir Hossain passed the order after the accused remained absent at the court today. The tribunal fixed March 24 for the next hearing of the case.

The tribunal also issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against complainant Towhidul Islam Chowdhury, also the brother of the victim in the case as he failed to comply with the court order.

He was earlier summoned to appear before it today to narrate what he knew about the murder, said Afrin Shilpi, additional public prosecutor of the court.

Of the nine accused, Tariq Sayeed Mamun, now in jail, was produced before the court while Harunur Rashid alias Leather Liton was not produced.

 

Two other accused--Adnan Siddiqui and Faruque Abbasi--now on bail were present at the court today.

Two other accused--Sanzidul Islam Imon and Ashish Roy Chowdhury -- are absconding.

On December 18, 1998, actor Sohel was shot dead by some miscreants at Trumps Club in Abedin Tower at the city's Banani Road-17.

Following the incident, the victim's brother filed a murder case at Gulshan Police Station.

After an investigation, detectives pressed charges against Aziz, Bunty and seven others on July 30, 1999.

On October 30, 2001, Dhaka's Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court framed charges against them.
