Former DIG Prison Bazlur jailed for five years

A court here today sentenced suspended Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Department of Prisons, Bazlur Rashid to five-year imprisonment in a case filed by the ACC on charges of illegally amassing assets worth over Tk 3.14 crore.
The court also fined him Tk 500,000, in default, to serve six months more in jail. Iqbal Hossain, Judge of Dhaka Special Judge Court-5, handed down the verdict this afternoon.
On September 22, the court fixed today to pronounce the judgment after the closing hearing in the case.
According to the charge sheet, Bazlur Rashid bought a 2,981 sq ft apartment of under construction the 'Sapna Niloy' project of 'Rupayan Housing Estate' at Siddhiswari, Dhaka.
The charge sheet stated that Bazlur paid Tk 3.8 crore for the apartment, but he could not show any valid source of the money and show any information about the purchase of the apartment in his income tax documents.
On October 20, 2019, the ACC arrested Bazlur Rashid and his wife after interrogation. ACC Deputy Director Md Salauddin filed a case against him on the same day.
