Following the escape of two death-row convicts from police custody in Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court this noon, the Supreme Court (SC) authorities ordered for beefing up security at all the courts across the country.

"Following the direction of the chief justice, the authorities concerned have been asked to strengthen security at all the courts across the country so that no untoward incident takes place there," Supreme Court spokesperson Md Saifur Rahman told BSS.

Alleged members of banned militant outfit Ansar-al Islam whisked away Abu Siddiq Sohel and Moinul Hasan Shamim, convicted and sentenced to death in publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan murder case, by spraying some chemical on the eyes of the law enforcers.

Chief of Dhaka Metropolitan DB Police Harun-Or-Rashid confirmed the matter to BSS and said that four people riding on two motorcycles went to the court area and snatched the two death-row convicts around 12 noon.

He also said that drive is underway to capture the snatched militants.
