A case was filed against Gazipur City Corporation’s suspended mayor M. Zahangir Alam for making derogatory comments on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Liberation War martyrs.

The case was filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA) with the Cyber Tribunal of Dhaka on Monday (November 29).

Advocate Mohammad Omar Faruk Asif, also a member of Awami League (AL) sub-committee on Information and Research, filed the case.

With this, at least five cases were filed after AL expelled Zahangir from the party on November 19 and Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Ministry suspended him from the mayor post a week later.

Judge Mohammad Ash Sams Joglul Hossain took the case into cognizance and recorded the complainant's statements.

The judge directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit a report before the tribunal by January 6 next year after investigation.
