4 brothers killed in Cox’s Bazar road crash

Four brothers were killed and three other siblings injured after a pick-up van ran them over while they were crossing road at Chakaria upazila in Cox's Bazar on Tuesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Anupam Shil, 47, Nirupam Shil, 45, Dipak Shil, 40, and Champak Shil, 30 --sons of Suresh Chandra Shil from Sagir Shah Kata village.

Officer-in-charge of Malumghat Highway Police Station in Chakaria said Safayet Hossain told media that the accident took place around 5:00am in Malumghat area on Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Highway when eight siblings were returning home after offering prayers at a nearby temple for their father who died 10 days ago.

He added that the speeding pick-up van ran them over as they were crossing the road together, leaving seven of them injured.

They were rushed to a local hospital where doctors declared the four brothers dead, the police officer said. 

He said police are trying to identify the pick-up van and arrest its driver.
