The government will never change with the intervention of foreigners, only the people of the country can change the government, said the visiting foreign minister Dr. AKM Abdul Momen. The foreign minister was speaking to reporters after arriving at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) from Paris, France, on a seven-day visit to meet with top UN officials and discuss the State Department's recent sanctions on seven former RAB officials. He arrived in New York on Wednesday afternoon (February 23), local time in the United States.
The Foreign Minister said that some people of our country are always busy with propaganda against the country. They requested for a blockade against Bangladesh. They think that the government of Bangladesh will change only if blockade is imposed against Bangladesh. But they don't know that foreigners cannot change the government. The people of Bangladesh will be change the government. The people of Bangladesh are very happy. So there will be no benefit in all these propaganda.
We all know that the United States is a country of sanctions Dr. Momen told reporters at the JFK airport.
Every country is coming with some or the other sanction. India also gave. Modi (Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi) was also banned in the United States. Everything is temporary.
I hope that when they find out the truth about RAB in Bangladesh, they will also lift the ban imposed on those 7 people. They will change their position on their own.
Addressing the expatriates living in the United States, Secretary of State Momen said that those of you who are American citizens have a great responsibility to inform the US administration about the real situation in Bangladesh. In this case, there is no need to look at the government. You can take that lead. Then they will not be confused. Besides, you all know that we have nothing to hide. Everything is open. So I hope every expatriate will work from their own position without looking at the government.
Dr. Momen added that the two events were in Europe. In Munich, Germany. Although there is talk of climate change, the situation in Russia and Ukraine is predominant.
"Everyone is talking in fear," he said. It seems that the whole world is getting involved in the war. In such a situation, I have presented to the US Secretary of State and the German Foreign Minister that a huge number of people in Bangladesh are being displaced every year due to the terrible effects of climate change. They have no recourse.
The foreign minister also told reporters that Russia and the United States could be involved in a war centered on Ukraine, which could have an impact on climate change. I have expressed that concern at the climate conference, he said.
In response, the German Foreign Minister reiterated that the prevention of climate change is a priority. Because, if we do not take the initiative to implement it properly, a large number of people will be displaced. Many countries will fall into instability.
However, he did not hear from the US Secretary of State about raising funds.
Dr. AKM Abdul Momen is expected to meet with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on April 4 in Washington DC. Diplomatic sources hope that the meeting will resolve differences between the two countries on some issues.
The formality of the visit of the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh to the United Nations is starting with a bilateral meeting with the President of the current UN General Assembly Abdullah Shahid on Thursday local time. Momen is scheduled to hold talks with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Foreign Minister Abdul Momen was warmly greeted at the JFK Airport by Acting Permanent Representative and Ambassador of Bangladesh to the United Nations Monwar Hossain, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Washington DC M Shahidul Islam and leaders and activists of the Awami League family in the United States.
