4 killed in Brahmanbaria road crush

Four people were killed and another was injured in a head-on collision between a pickup van and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Rampura area under Bijoynagar upazila in Brahmanbaria this morning.
The deceased were identified as Dudu Mia, Morsheda Begum and Farid Mia of Ibrahimpur village in Chandura union and Hosne Ara Begum, a resident of Khadurai village in Ichapura union of the upazila. All of the deceased were auto-rickshaw passengers.
The accident occurred when the CNG-run auto-rickshaw heading towards Shahbazpur collided head-on with the pickup van coming from the opposite direction in the area around 6.45am this morning, leaving two people dead on the spot and three others injured, said Md. Shahjalal, officer-in-charge (OC) of Khatihata Highway Police Station. The injured were taken to Brahmanbaria General Hospital, where another died.
Later, seriously injured Farid Mia succumbed to his injuries on the way to Dhaka for better treatment.
Police seized the pickup van while its driver escaped from the scene, the OC added.
