Be aware of using social media : IGP

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Benazir Ahmed today said everyone has to be aware of risks in using social media.BSS.
“You need to be aware of risks when using social media and be careful. Please don’t jump into the world of social media without knowing the cyber risk,” he made call in a keynote address at a function marking the first anniversary of the Police Cyber Support for Women Service at the Hall of Integrity at Police Headquarters yesterday.
Additional IGPs, heads of various units of police, senior police officers and women serving to the Police Cyber Support for Women Services joined the function.
Dr Benazir said that the cyber world made lives easier side by side criminals were committing various crimes using the technology.
“Now not only urban people but also rural people are using social media. As a result, many are becoming victims of cyber bullying or cyber crime. Not only individual but also the society, eventually the state is also becoming victim sometime,” he added.
The IGP said women became victims of cyber bullying in most cases, which is growing day by day, adding, “When a woman became victim of a cyber attack, then victim knows what happened to their family. We have launched this service to serve women victims of cyber crime. Many women have already been provided services through this service.”
He said the Cyber Support for Women Services has provided technology and legal services to 8,221 cyber victims, as 12,641 victims women contacted with the cyber support service.
“Fully women run cyber support service is dedicated for providing technology and legal support to women cyber victims. A total of 17,280 victims directly communicated with the service soon after launching the service last year,” Dr Benazir added.
