The High Court on Monday has issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain in four weeks as to why they should not be directed to give Tk 10 crore to Tamim, who lost his left hand in electrocution, as compensation.
An HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman came up with the rule following a writ petition filed by Tamim's father Shahadat Hossain seeking necessary directives from the court in this regard.
Energy and resources secretary, chairman of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board, general manager of Laxmipur Pally Bidyut Samity and other officials concerned have been made respondents to the rule.
The court also directed the authorities concerned to immediately give Tk 5 lakh as a cost for treatment to Tamim Iqbal, 12, of Laxmipur's Ramgati.
Earlier on September 25, Tamim was electrocuted when he came in contact with a live electric wire of the Pally Bidyut Samity.
Later, critically injured Tamim was admitted to the hospital and lost his left hand. He is now receiving treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.
Family members alleged that the incident happened due to negligence of the respondents in ensuring safety.
