Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Thursday said lawmaker Haji Salim had gone abroad and returned home following the legal course.

The Awami League lawmaker, who was convicted and sentenced to 10-year imprisonment in a graft case, went to Bangkok, Thailand, on April 30, and returned home this afternoon.

"He (Haji Selim) went to Bangkok to receive emergency treatment and has already returned home. He is an honourable lawmaker and a law abiding citizen. He went abroad in accordance with the law," the minister said while talking to newsmen at the secretariat today, reports BSS.

The High Court on March 9, 2021, upheld a lower court judgment that sentenced the lawmaker to 10-year imprisonment in a case filed over amassing illegal wealth. The court had asked the lawmaker to surrender before the lower court within 30 days of releasing the full text of the judgment. The full text of the High Court judgment was released on February 10, 2022.
