Protests were held on Friday after Jumma prayers in capital Dhaka and different parts of the country to condemn the derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by two ruling BJP leaders of India.
In Dhaka, several thousand people took to the streets after the prayers at Baitul Mukurram mosque and marched up to Nightingale point in Kakrail amid heavy police deployment, witnesses said.
Protests were also reported in the city’s Tejgaon and Jagannath University area, reports UNB.
India’s ruling BJP party has, meanwhile, suspended its spokesperson Nupur Sharma for her remarks about the prophet. Another leader of the party Naveen Jindal has also been expelled over the similar offense.
India is facing diplomatic heat from the Muslim-majority nations, especially from the Middle Eastern countries over the issue.
