Metrorail to run from Mirpur to Agargaon Sunday

Metrorail will run from Mirpur to Agargaon experimentally on Sunday. Earlier, the metro-rail’s experimental operation was confined to Mirpur-10 from Uttara. The passengers will not be transported during this operation as it is a test.
MAN Siddique, Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), came up with the assertion while speaking to journalists in a virtual press conference on Thursday (December 9).
He said work is in full swing to open metrorail to the public in December next year. “We will test the performance of metrorail from Mirpur to Agargaon on Sunday (December 12) the month of victory,” he said.
MAN Siddique described the progress of the overall work of the metrorail. He said work is progressing at a fast pace as expected.
Work has been completed from Diabari to Agargaon at the work is going on from Agargaon to Motijheel.
Meanwhile, seven sets of trains (rail coaches) have reached Diabari depot. The eighth set train will also reach the depot in a couple of days. Two more sets of trains will arrive in Dhaka next January, said the managing director.
MAN Siddique said the trains, which have already reached the depot are being tested at the different stages.

In response to question on manpower, the managing director said those who have been recruited are being trained at different levels in Dhaka, Chittagong and Gazipur. They will also be sent abroad for training, he added.
The He said an independent police force was being formed for the security of Metrorail, adding that the process of forming a force by creating 356 posts was in the final stages.
It is now in the cabinet department. With this manpower, security work can be carried out from Uttara to Agargaon, said the managing director.
He added that besides its own security forces, other law enforcement agencies of the government would also be active in security.
In response to another question, he added that the metro-rail to Motijheel will be opened to the public by December 2023.
At the same time, he added, the final design of the section from Motijheel to Kamalapur and land acquisition work is underway.
Asked how the passengers from Agargaon would reach their respective destinations if Metrorail is launched from Uttara to Agargaon, the managing director of metro-rail said adequate bus service would be launched from Agargaon.
