Newborn comes to world only to see parents, sister killed in road crush

A couple and their six-year-old daughter were killed by a truck while crossing the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Trishal upazila of Mymensingh.
On the eve of her death, the pregnant mother gave birth to a newborn girl on the road. The accident took place in the Court bulding area of the upazila around 3 o'clock on Saturday.
The deceased are Jahangir Alam (42), his wife Ratna Begum (32) and their six-year-old daughter Sanjida Akhter, hailing from Raimoni area of Trishal upazila. Deceased Ratna was eight months pregnant.
According to police, Jahangir Alam went Trishal upazila headquarter with his eight-month pregnant wife and daughter for conducting a medical test of his wife.
While crossing the highway a speeding Mymenshingh-bound truck knocked them down, leaving all three family members dead on the spot, said police.
Ironically the baby girl was born before the mother died on the road and she was taken to upazila health complex by locals, said OC Main Uddin.
“The girl sustained minor injuries and she is now being treated at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. The truck has been seized and a case will be filed in this regard,” said the OC.
