A Dhaka court has granted permanent bail to former BNP minister Barrister Nazmul Huda in a case filed over lodging fake case against former Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha.

Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of the Special Judge Court-9 of Dhaka passed the order today after Nazmul Huda appeared before it and sought permanent bail.

The court also fixed January 16 for hearing on charge framing against the accused in the case.

Earlier on November 24, Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court granted him ad-interim bail in the case.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director Benjir Ahmed, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet against the former BNP minister.

Nazmul Huda filed the case against the former Chief Justice SK Sinha with Shahbagh Police Station on September 27, 2018 for allegedly demanding bribe from him.

Nazmul also sought change in the judgement of a graft case that had already been disposed of.

The ACC found the allegations baseless and false after probing the case for one and a half years.

On December 4 of 2019, discharging SK Sinha from the charges of the case, the national anti-graft watchdog submitted the final report.

ACC Director Syed Iqbal Hossain filed the case with the ACC's integrated district office in Dhaka on February 19 of 2020.

On November 9, SK Sinha, now in USA, was jailed for 11 years in a money laundering case.
