Govt keen to buy fuel from Russia: Planning Minister

Planning Minister MA Mannan on Tuesday said that the government is planning to buy fuel oil from Russia.
The Minister made the comment while talking to journalists following the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) meeting held in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Mannan said, “The prices of various products have increased due to fuel price hike. Low income people are suffering. The government is trying to coordinate the situation. As part of this, the government is planning to import oil from Russia.”

The Planning Minister said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said in the meeting that oil can be bought by exchanging Russian ruble.
“She instructed us to consider about this (buying oil with ruble) if necessary. The Prime Minister said that if India can buy oil from Russia then why cannot we do it?”
In the briefing, Planning Minister also presented ECNEC’s reviews on fuel import from Russia and various issues.
