Two mortar shells fired from Myanmar landed in Ghumdhum area of ​​Bandarban near Zero Point of Bangladesh-Myanmar border around 3:30 pm on Sunday.

The shells did not explode. Although no one was injured, the local residents are in fear. Members of the Bangladesh Border Guard Force (BGB) surround the mortar shells. They trying to disable them.

According to local administration and residents of the area, the Arakan Army has been fighting with the Myanmar army across the border in Rakhine State for more than two weeks. There was a fierce fight between the two sides this morning. At noon, Myanmar army helicopters and warplanes were seen circling the border. Later in the afternoon, a mortar shell landed within the border of Bangladesh.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Tariqul told reporters that two mortar shells from Myanmar fell half a kilometer from the Zero Line in Bangladesh at the Tumbru border in Ward No. 2 of Ghumdhum Union. One of them is near to Uttarpara Jame Masjid. No one was injured in this incident. BGB members are on alert at the border.

He also said that it is believed that the mortar shells were not targeted and fired in Bangladesh. It is very possible that some insurgent group with Myanmar's Border Guard Force (BGP) may cross our border due to firing.

According to the information published in the international media, recently there was a fierce clash between the Myanmar army and the Arakan Army, a separatist organization of Rakhine, in the area adjacent to the 38th border post of North Mangdu, Myanmar, on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border. Also, at least 37 Myanmar soldiers were killed in clashes in Paletua area of ​​Rakhine.
