DMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam to retire on Oct 30

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam go on retirement on October 30.
A circular-signed by Dhananjoy Kumar Das, deputy secretary of the Public Security Division of Home Ministry, was issued in this regard on Wednesday.
“Police Commissioner (Additional IGP, Grade 1) Md Shafiqul Islam has been granted post-retirement leave (PRL) from October 30 till October 29 next year. He will be entitled to retirement and leave benefits as per rules,” the circular informs.
Md Shafiqul Islam took charge as the commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on September 7, 2019. Although he was scheduled to retire on October 30 last year, he was appointed as DMP commissioner for one year on contractual basis.
Md Shafiqul Islam joined the police as an ASP on December 20, 1989. He is an 8th batch officer of BCS.
During his career, he served as superintendent of police in Narayanganj, Patuakhali, Sunamganj and Comilla.
Apart from this, he served as Chittagong Metropolitan police commissioner, Chittagong Range DIG and Dhaka Range DIG. After being promoted as Additional IGP, he also served as Head of Anti-Terrorism Unit, Head of HRM Wing at Police Headquarters and Head of CID.
