Cyclone Sitrang: Abandoned cargo vessel washes ashore at St Martin’s Island

An abandoned foreign cargo vessel has washed ashore in St. Martin, Cox's Bazar due to Cyclone Sitrang on Monday. There were no people on board.

According to the residents of the island, the ship floated slowly towards the shore from the sea on Monday noon. It contains many containers and other necessary goods. But no one could say anything about where the ship came from.

Local UP member Khorshed Alam said that a large foreign ship came to Chheradwip by floating in the sea due to the impact of Cyclone Sitrang. The local administration has been informed about the vessel.

Coast Guard's Teknaf Station Commander Lt Ashik Ahmed said on information a coast guard team went there. The cargo ship is 90 meters in length with some goods inside.

A search will be conducted on the cargo vessel after the cyclone, the coast guard official said.
