Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said that the government is working to punish those who conduct anti-government activities, make provocative and fabricated statements under the law.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this in response to a question from Awami League member of Parliament Nur Uddin Chowdhury Nayan during the question and answer session of the National Parliament on Wednesday (November 2).
Sheikh Hasina said that Bangladeshi expatriates or immigrants living in different countries of the world make important contributions to the respective countries through their talent, education and work. Apart from sending remittances to Bangladesh, they brighten the name and image of the country through their positive activities in the host country. They can also play a role in protecting the interests of Bangladesh in the host country.
He said that it is sad that, besides playing a positive role, some people among expatriate or immigrant Bangladeshis stay outside the country and engage in negative propaganda against Bangladesh and the government. The government is working with the aim of conducting anti-government activities, punishing or prosecuting those who make provocative and completely fabricated statements under the law.
The Prime Minister said that plans have been made to regularly publish informative news, articles in international news media and online media to counter misinformation and project a positive image of Bangladesh.
The fabricated and baseless posts of those who propagandize against the country are monitored, she added.
