Dhaka Nagar Paribahan bus service launched

The long-awaited Dhaka Nagar Paribahan bus service--from Ghatarchar to Kanchpur under one authority--was launched on Sunday, after missing three earlier deadlines.
On the route, 50 brand new, green-coloured buses will run on a trial basis.
The bus service was virtually inaugurated by Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.
On December 19, Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said that the bus service will start as part of the government’s bus route rationalisation initiative.
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Md Atiqul Islam said bus fare from Ghatarchar to Kanchpur via Motijheel and Signboard has been fixed at Tk 2.15 per square kilometre, and e-ticketing system will facilitate the service.
He added that no bus would be allowed to pick up or drop off passengers anywhere aside from designated places.
