One killed, many injured as BNP-police clash in Naya Paltan

A 28-year-old man was killed and many others injured when a clash broke out between BNP activists and police at the city's Nayapaltan area on Wednesday afternoon.
The name of the deceased is Maqbul Ahmed. When he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a bloody state, the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Witnesses said the entire Nayapaltan area turned into a battleground following a violent clash that broke out between BNP activists and police in front of the BNP's central office at Nayapaltan.
The clash erupted when BNP leaders and activists tried to assemble in front of the party office around 3:00pm. Police lobbed tear gas shells and charged batons on the BNP activists, triggering a clash.
At one stage of the clash, police turned desperate and fired hundreds of rubber bullets at the BNP leaders and activists, leaving dozens of them injured.
In reply, BNP activists also pelted brick chips towards police. It was found that many BNP leaders and activists received multiple bullet injuries during the clash.
