College students today again took to the streets in the capital demanding road safety and half-fare for them in public transport.
Several hundred students from different colleges gathered in front of the capital’s Rapa Plaza in Dhanmondi-27 around 12 noon and put barricades on the road to press home their demand.
Besides, students staged demonstrations in the city’s Uttara, Shantinagar and Rampura areas to push for the same demand.
Due to the blockade, traffic on Mirpur road remained suspended for one hour, said Ikram Ali Mia, officer-in-charge of Dhanmondi Police Station.
The students are staging demonstration in the city since last a few days after the recent hike in transport fares following the rise in fuel prices and the death of a Notre Dame College student hit by a Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) vehicle.
