Panchagarh BNP leader killed in police firing

A BNP leader was killed during a fierce clash between the party activists and police in Panchagarh on Saturday. Over 50 people including police were injured during the incident as well.
The deceased leader was identified as Abdur Rashid Arefin, 50, joint convener of Maidandighi union unit BNP.
The incident happened at about 4:00pm during a clash between BNP activists and police in front of the District BNP office on Saturday.
Habib Al Amin Ferdous, Organizing Secretary of the District Lawyers' Association, said that the police prevented our peaceful march. One of us died. Many leaders and activists were injured.
However, police denied the allegation of killing any BNP leader.
Panchagarh additional police super Rakibul Hasan said 20 policemen were injured in the attacks of BNP men. "No incident of firing was happened. Only 10 rounds of teargas shells were fired. So, question doesn't arise about the death of anyone at all," he said.
