Honey over Tk 5.77 crore collected in Manikganj

The commercial honey collectors have collected 1, 65, 000 kilograms of honey during the current season from all the seven upazilas of the district, the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said.
DAE office sources said a total of 100 honey collectors set up 10,000 bee boxes at selected 3,500 hectares of mustard field and collected 1, 65, 000 kgs of honey at a cost of Taka 5,77, 50, 000 during the season, adding that the collection of honey has already been completed and the honey collectors have started to leave the mustard fields.
DAE office sources said the cultivation of mustard exceeded its fixed target and the production also increased as the farmers received all the necessary agri-inputs including seeds and fertilizers in due time, adding that the government had distributed incentives for mustard cultivation for the marginal cultivators. DAE office sources said the government has taken initiatives to produce more oil seeds in the country to avoid the import of the edible oil from abroad.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said bee helps to pollination while collecting honey flying from flowers to flowers of mustard which can help increase about 15 percent production.
The officials, honey collectors and even the cultivators said that bees have a good role in increasing the production of mustard and it is very much positive for mustard production.
