Death toll from Gulistan explosion rises to 23

One more victim of the deadly explosion at a building near the BRTC bus counter in the city's Gulistan area died this morning at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (SHNIBPS), taking the death toll to 23.

The victim was identified as Md Mirza Azam, 35, son of Shahjahan Mridha of Boga village under Baufal thana in Patuakhali district.

Dr SM Aiyub Hossain, a residential Medical Officer (RMO) of the institute confirmed the matter saying: "The victim died around 9:30 am while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) here. He sustained 80 percent burn."

Family sources said Azam worked as a salesman at a shop named Bangladesh Sanitary, situated at the basement of the seven-storey building in Gulistan's Siddique Bazar area that exploded on March 7.

Mentionable, a horrific blast occurred in the basement of the building around 4.50 pm on March 7, instantly killing around 10 people and injuring many more.
