Woman died in RAB custody, family members allege torture

An employee of Union Land Office named Sultana Jasmine (45) died in Naogaon RAB custody. However, the family claims that Sultana Jasmine died due to torture by RAB.
After arresting Sultana Jasmine from Muktir Mor area of Naogaon last Thursday (March 23) at around 11 o'clock, she died at Rajshahi Medical College (Ramek) Hospital at around 9 o'clock on Friday (March 24).
Sultana Jasmine was working as an office assistant in Chandipur Union Land Office of Naogaon Sadar Upazila.
RAB says, there were allegations of cheating against Sultana Jasmine. She was detained for questioning in view of that complaint.
Sultana's uncle and Naogaon municipality former councilor Nazmul Haque said RAB men with white microbus detained his niece from Muktir intersection at 10:30am on Wednesday.
Nazmul Haque said, "We didn't know to which camp of RAB she was taken. After 12:00pm, they came to know that Sultana had been undergoing treatment at Sadar hospital. We rushed there and found RAB men. My niece could not talk. After a while she was taken to Rajshahi Medical College. She died there while undergoing treatment on Friday morning. However, the body was handed over on Saturday afternoon."
FM Shamim Ahmed, director of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, said that during RAB's interrogation, they found out that the woman fell and got a head injury. Later she was admitted to Naogaon Hospital. When his condition worsened, she was brought to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. A CT scan revealed that she died due to brain haemorrhage. She had a small red spot on his head. But there was no sign of injury anywhere on the body.
Rajshahi RAB-5 Company Commander Major Nazmus Saqib said, I received a complaint of financial fraud against Sultana Jasmine. There were allegations of unusual money transactions as his bank. Later by collecting his bank statement we get the truth. Based on the complaint, she was taken into RAB custody from Mukti Mor area of Naogaon town for questioning. She fell ill soon after his arrest.
She was immediately taken to Naogaon Sadar Hospital. After the first treatment there, the doctors advised to take him to Rajshahi. She was then taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. There his condition worsened and she died of a stroke last Friday. After the legal process, his body was handed over to his relatives on Saturday afternoon.
About the allegation, RAB officer Nazmus Sakib said the woman was not taken to any camp after detention. She fell sick after detention. The allegation of torture is not true.
Sultana's uncle Nazmul Haque said Sultana was separated from her husband 17 years ago.
She struggled to bring up her son. She was an office assistant at the land office. Nobody brought about any allegation of corruption or irregularities against her.
