Bangabazar fire finally doused after 75 hours

The devastating fire at Bangabazar market was finally doused on Friday morning, over 75 hours after it broke burning down thousands of shops amid hectic Eid shopping.
Md Shahjahan Shikdar, deputy assistant director (media cell) of Fire Service and Civil Defence said the last traces of Tuesday's fire was extinguished around 9:30 on Friday, reports UNB.
The massive fire broke out at the Bangabazar Shopping Complex in Dhaka on Tuesday morning, burning several thousand shops, mainly ready-made garment and footwear stores, to ashes. A total of six adjacent markets were also burnt.
Other six markets are--Gulistan Market, AnexK tower, Mohanagar shopping complex, Adarsha market, Banga Islami Market and Barisal Plaza.
As per the Bangladesh Shop Owners’ Association President, the fire damaged over 5,000 shops, resulting in a loss of over Tk15 billion.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) formed an eight-member committee to investigate the origin of the fire.
Meanwhile, two cases were filed by police and fire service against 300 unidentified people after angry mob attacked the Fire Service and Civil Defense headquarters saying that firefighters failed to quickly bring the fire under control.
A Dhaka court on Thursday granted a one-day remand to each of three accused in a case over the attack on police and obstruction of government work.
