Special measures taken to ensure smooth journey for Eid makers: IGP

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on Thursday said special measures have been taken to ensure smooth journey for Eid makers.
“Police are ready to ensure smooth vehicular movement on highways during the Eid,” he told reporters after inspecting traffic management at Gazipur intersection, Chandra intersection and Bypile.
The IGP said specialized units along with district police and Metropolitan Police are working to facilitate the home-bound people, reports BSS.
“The government has taken various steps for improvement of communication system including road widening and repairing. As a result, passenger movement has become much easier than past,” he added.
Mamun said, “Till now the traffic is normal. Our efforts will continue to maintain this situation in the coming days.”
He urged drivers to drive cautiously, saying, “Drive against unfit vehicles will continue.”
The IGP directed police force to take effective measures to stop passenger's journey on goods carrier aimed at preventing accidents during the Eid journey.
He urged the home-bound people not to take risk by travelling bus, launch and train as extra passengers. “Don’t travel on the roof of the train,” he added.
The IGP said many people will leave city and go to their villages during the Eid holidays. “There will be crowding at tourist centers. We have taken security measures keeping in mind all the challenges to make the Eid journey comfortable,” he said.
Additional IGPs Md Atiqul Islam and Md Shahabuddin Khan, Deputy Inspector Generals (DIG) Md Hyder Ali Khan, Md Mahfuzur Rahman and Syed Nurul Islam, Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Molla Nazrul Islam, Superintendents of Police (SPs) of Tangail District Sarkar Mohammad Kaiser, Md Asaduzzaman and other senior officers were present.
