National Prof Rafiqul Islam passes away

National Professor, scholar and cultural personality Dr Md Rafiqul Islam passed away at a hospital in the city on Tuesday (November 30). He was 87.
The Ekushey Padak and Independence Award recipient, Professor Rafiqul, died in the city's Evercare Hospital around 2.30pm while undergoing treatment with multiple complications.
The educator was the President of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee.
Professor Rafiqul Islam was also the current President of Bangla Academy.
He was born on January 1, 1934 at Matlab Uttar in Chandpur. His father’s name was Md. Zulfiqar Ali and his mother was Jannatun Nesa.
