Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq on Sunday said the present government believes that the election is the main foundation of democracy and that is why it is providing all kinds of support to the Election Commission (EC) to hold free, fair and neutral election.
“As long as the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina remains in power, it will continue to provide all kinds of support to the EC,” he said.
The minister said this while addressing a function to distribute special smart national identity card (NID) among heroic Freedom Fighters and to launch the compilations of the Bangla version of the Representation of the People Order (RPO), 1972, and the Parliamentary Constituency Boundary Delimitation Act, 2021, at a city hotel.
Narrating different steps taken by the present government for the EC, the law minister said smart NID card, correct voter list, electronic voting machine, modern infrastructures of the EC, the Parliamentary Constituency Boundary Delimitation Act, 2021, Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commission Act, 2022 and strengthening of the EC are the results of such steps of the government.
“Many governments came in the past of fifty years, but none dared to formulate this act (Election Commission law), which was done by Sheikh Hasina,” he added.
