Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif on Monday said people, who are using arms against the state, will not be spared and they would be brought to book.

"We will not tolerate terrorist activities.....the law enforcement agencies will take actions if anyone tries to hinder law and order in Rangamati," he said addressing a meeting with Rangamati district unit Awami League leader and activists as the chief guest at Ethnic Minority Cultural Institute.

Hanif said Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took initiatives to establish peace and uplift the life of ethnic people after assuming state power in 1996.

She then signed a peace treaty in 1997 to establish peace and stability in Chittagong Hill Tract, but BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia opposed the pact.

He also said BNP-Jamaat is a follower of Pakistan as they do not believe in the independence of Bangladesh, consequently, they are trying to pull back the country.

"So, we will have to remain cautious against any kind of plots so that none can hinder the development spree, being implemented under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina," he added.
