BNP to protest clash with police in Sylhet Dec 24, 25

BNP will protest and hold demonstrations at the upazila level in Sylhet division on Friday (December 24) and at the district level on Saturday (December 25) in response to Wednesday’s clash with police that left at least 100 leaders and activists injured in Habiganj town.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the announcement in on Thursday afternoon.

The BNP leader added: “All of our programmes are completely peaceful. However, by obstructing on purpose, Awami League have completely destroyed democracy.”

He added: “The most important demand that we are protesting for is BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release and treatment abroad. The people of this country are showing their distrust in the government by participating in every programme on their own initiative.”

On Wednesday, BNP called a procession, demanding the release of party Chairperson Khaleda Zia at Shayestanagar point in Habiganj town that was also attended by central leaders.

Police also clashed with the BNP men at different points of the town including Poil road, Chirakhana road, and Babystand in the day.
