Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday said there is no alternative to the election to hand over power. But, the BNP is now dreaming a dream of going to power.

He said let the BNP dreaming of as many dreams as they can. Many people go through day-dreams everyday. We don't care of it.

Quader said these while speaking as the chief guest at the triennial conference of Gazipur City Awami League at the historic Bhawal Rajbari ground on Saturday.

Addressing BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the AL general secretary said, "Sheikh Hasina has shown mercy to a convict like your leader by allowing her to live in her house. Aren't you ashamed of it? You now want to launch a mass upsurge. You have not been able to bring out a single procession for the release of your leader so far. But, you become tired and exhausted constantly uttering the title 'Deshnetri.' As many as 13 years have already passed. When will the movement begin? How long a human being survives?"

Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said, "You compare Gazipur with Sylhet looking on the television screens. In Gazipur, only the City Awami League is holding the conference, while people from five districts have thronged the rally in Sylhet city.

Sylhet city started flooding with people three days ago. Leaders and workers went there with pillows, beds, blankets and cooking utensils. They have enjoyed foods very well. Food and food went to the venue. Beef, mutton, chicken and fish kopta. And then Pepsi-Cola. BNP is now very well. Though they are not in power, they are very well now, he added.

Referring to the BNP leaders' frequent meetings with diplomats, Quader said, "Bangladesh Nalish Party makes complains to the diplomats. Why don't you ask them where does the caretaker government system exist? Elections in Bangladesh will be held like it happens in other countries of the world. The Sheikh Hasina government will not interfere in it. We will play games in December. We will resist your movements."

On the occasion of the triennial conference, the gates of Bhawal Rajbari were opened at 11:00am on Saturday. At that time, the processionists became desperate to enter the meeting venue. Instantly, the entire ground was filled up with people.

At the second phase of the triennial conference, the names of two president and 16 general secretary candidates for Gazipur City Awami League were read out. Later, the names of Advocate Azmat Ullah and Ataullah Mondol were announced as president and general secretary respectively.
