Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Sunday said the countrymen get scared when BNP talks about Tarique Rahman as he is the symbol of corruption and terrorism.
"The people of the country get shocked when they (BNP) talk about Tarique Rahman as he is the symbol of terrorism, violence and corruption to the countrymen," he added.
The minister said this to reporters while replying to a query over a comment of the BNP secretary general as he told that they would make the country independent for the second time by bringing back Tarique Rahman, at the meeting room of his ministry at the Secretariat here.
Hasan said Tarique is also the symbol of lootings by 'Hawa Bhababn' and a convicted accused of the much-talked-about 10-truck arms case. They will carry out protest in the country, which means they will start arson attack and burn people alive again under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, he added.
But, the minister said, the countrymen will resist them (BNP). They are becoming isolated from the people by talking about Tarique, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.
Replying to another query over an allegation of filling ghost cases, the minister said the government is not filling any ghost case rather Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is making ghost statements. Police are arresting those accused whose bails have been canceled, said Hasan.
