Court rejects Mirza Fakhrul, Abbas's bail pleas again

A Dhaka curt here today again dismissed bail petitions of 58 leaders and activists of BNP including its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and the party's Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas, in a case lodged over the clash between party men and police at the capital's Nayapaltan on December 7.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain passed the order after holding hearing on the petitions.
Earlier on December 14, Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Rezaul Karim had fixed today to hold hearing on the matter.
The court on December 12 had rejected bail petitions of 224 accused including Mirza Fakhrul and Mirza Abbas.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim on December 9 sent BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and the party's Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas to jail in the case.
The court had passed the order as police produced the two BNP leaders before the court and pleaded to keep them behind the bars till the end of probe in the case. The defence, however, pleaded for their bail.
One person was killed and several others including policemen were injured in the clash in front of BNP central office in Nayapaltan on December 7.
Police filed the case against 473 leaders and activists of BNP and another 1,500- 2,000 unnamed people, at the capital's Paltan Police Station.
