Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Monday said BNP-Jamaat destroyed the country but Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been repairing it.

"BNP-Jamaat destroyed the country but they are talking about its repair, which is ridiculous. After assuming power, Sheikh Hasina has repaired the ruined state," he said while speaking at a preparatory meeting of the AL volunteers and discipline sub-committee ahead of the party's 22nd national council, reports BSS.

The meeting was held at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) auditorium in the capital.

Coming down heavily on the BNP, the AL general secretary said Sheikh Hasina has repaired the country while everything is better now than that of the BNP's period.

The Awami League is repairing all things the country requires he said, questioning "how can those, who put the country at the edge of destruction, repair the country?"

He said Bangladesh has started turning around from ongoing crisis and that time Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has shown the most sense of responsibility.

"There are more challenges ahead and we must overcome those," he added.
Quader said: "We want to build a smart Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Without discipline, it is not possible to build a smart Bangladesh. So, discipline must be ensured to build a smart Bangladesh".

About the AL national conference, he said even if the conference is held in a simple manner, there will be no lack of the AL leaders and workers since there will be a surge of AL men at the conference.

Considering the suffering of the country's people, the conference would not be a well-decorated one, the AL general secretary said.

He said AL President Sheikh Hasina always thinks about the welfare of the country's people and keeping the people's suffering in mind, this conference is being kept simple.
