BNP is holding a human chain in front of Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka, demanding the release of party’s Chairperson Khaleda Zia and allowing her to go abroad for better treatment.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and other senior leaders are participating in the programme.
The 76-year-old former premier was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis and needs to be taken abroad immediately for advanced treatment, her physicians say.
Khaleda was sent to jail on February 8, 2018, in a corruption case. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, she was given a temporary release on certain conditions on March 25 last year. The term of her release has been extended four times so far.
