The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court today dismissed a petition of BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas, pleading to review the apex court order that had refused to quash graft case proceedings against him.
“A seven-member apex court bench headed by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order, paving the way for continuing the trial proceedings at the lower court concerned,” Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) counsel senior advocate Khurshid Alam Khan said.
Advocate Abdur Rezak Khan and Sagir Hossain Leon moved the plea before the court.
Earlier on October 25, 2022, the Appellate Division dismissed a petition against High Court order that said the graft case proceedings against Mirza Abbas to continue.
ACC Assistant Director Md Shafiul Alam filed the graft case against Abbas with Ramna Police Station on August 16, 2007, for allegedly amassing illegal wealth of Taka six crore and concealing information about wealth of Taka 33.48 lakh.
The High Court on November 11, 2018, canceled a plea to quash the trial proceedings.
