Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud on Monday said BNP is a barrier in the way of practicing democracy and in deepening the democratic governance system in Bangladesh.
"In fact, BNP leaders including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir are busy in an ill attempt of killing democracy. Under the orchestrated plan, they had tried to resist 2014's elections. They tried allout efforts to make questionable the 2018's polls. Now, they are making different statements as they want to kill the democracy," he said.
The minister told reporters while replying to a query at Awami League central office in city's Bangabandhu Avenue.
Hasan said caretaker government system will not be restored in Bangladesh and the present government will perform as the election-period government like all other parliamentary democratic countries across the globe. He gave reference that incumbent government act as polls-time government in India, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and different countries of the Continental Europe.
Even, he said, the president of the USA doesn't resign during the polls.
He said caretaker government exists only in Pakistan and BNP also likes Pakistan. That is why, they want to follow Pakistan, but caretaker government will never return in Bangladesh, said Hasan.
