Khaleda Zia can't engage in politics: Hasan

Awami League joint general secretary and Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Thursday said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia cannot engage in politics as per the condition of her release from jail.
He said, the government has given her conditional permission to stay home considering her health and age. As per the condition, she couldn't do politics.
The minister said this while replying to a query from reporters at the meeting room of his ministry at Secretariat in the capital.
Besides, he said, if any person is convicted for more than two years, he or she cannot be eligible to compete in the election as per the law of the country. Khaldea Zia was sentenced for more than two years. So, there is no question of her participation in the election.
Replying to another query, The Minister said, "It is true that the condition does not expressly forbid her from engaging in politics but it mentions that she will have treatment staying at home and will not take part any other activities."
On February 19, Law Minister Anisul Huq said there was no bar against Khaleda engaging in politics, but she cannot run in elections under.
