Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Yasir Ali were included in the central contract list (from January to December 2022) for Test while Shakib Al Hasan, despite all the recent fuss regarding his future commitment with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), was kept in the central contract list for all formats.
Soumya Sarkar, Abu Jayed, Mohammad Saifuddin, Saif Hassan and Shamim Hossain are the five players left out of central contract as the BCB trimmed down last year's 24-member list to 21 this year. However, BCB prepared the list separating each format like last year.
Despite BCB president Nazmul Hassan issuing a warning to take a tough stance against Shakib, who was recently rested from all forms of cricket till April 30 following a dispute with the board over his availability for the upcoming South Africa tour, the all-rounder was retained in the central contract for all three formats of the game.
“Shakib wanted a rest from cricket and he has been allowed one. He never said anything about not being interested in playing any particular format. And hence, he was kept in the central contract for all formats,” said BCB's cricket operations committee chairman Jalal Yunus on Thursday.
