Captain Dean Elgar hit his second half-century in the match as South Africa reached 105-1 at lunch on day four of the first Test against Bangladesh at Kingsmead Cricket Ground in Durban today.
The hosts however extended their lead to a strong 174 runs with nine wickets at hand at the first interval of the day.
Elgar who struck 67 in the first innings, was batting on 62, with Keegan Petersen on 21. South Africa posted 367 in its first innings before bowling Bangladesh out for 298, reports BSS.
Resuming the fourth day on 6-0, South Africa were driven by Elgar who kept Bangladesh bowlers at bay with calculated aggression.
His opening partner Sarel Erwee however scored just 8, before Bangladesh fast bowler Ebadot Hossain overturned the umpire's decision with a review to remove him via leg-before. That was the only success of Bangladesh in the first session of the day.
