Bangladesh has detected its first cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 in two female cricketers of the Bangladesh Cricket Team.
“The cricketers returned to the country from Zimbabwe recently,” said Health Minister Zahid Maleque at an event at Dhaka Shishu Hospital on Saturday (December 11).
“Two cricketers have been kept in isolation and they are being treated,” he said.
On December 6, the two cricketers tested positive for Covid-19.
The women’s team recently returned home from Zimbabwe after confirming their participation in the next 50-over World Cup, which will be Bangladesh’s maiden World Cup appearance as well.
