Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan cancelled his contract with Betwinner News, a sister concern of a betting organisation.
The development came on the heels of a threat from the the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to drop him from the Bangladesh squad for the upcoming Asia Cup unless he cancels the contract with Betwinner.
BCB president Nazmul Hasan confirmed the development, saying that they received a letter from Shakib Al Hasan in this regard.
According to BCB’s regulation, no cricketer is allowed to work with any organization that is involved in betting-related activities.
And also according to BCB’s regulation, every cricketer is bound to inform BCB before making any business contract with any organization, but Shakib did not inform the board about his contract with BCB.
“We have a zero-tolerance policy against betting and betting-related activities,” Nazmul told the media earlier Thursday. “If he continues his contract with that organization, we will not consider him for the national team.”
Meanwhile, BCB is yet to announce the squad for the Asia Cup due to the issue with Shakib. Nazmul said the board will announce the squad by Saturday (Aug 13).
