Bangladesh keeps winning in ICC Women's U19 T20 WC

Afia Prottasha and Shorna Akter hit half-centuries as Bangladesh Women's team kept their winning spree in the ICC Women's Under-19 World Cup, edging Sri Lanka past by 9 runs at Benoni in South Africa today.

In their first game, they stunned Australia by 7 wickets and now their second consecutive victory meant, they are extremely favorite to go to the next round as group champions. The junior Tigresses will take on USA on Wednesday in their last match of the group phase.

Prottasha struck 53 off 43 with five fours and three sixes while Shorna showed her power-hitting skill in his 50 not out from 28 balls, as Bangladesh women's compiled a hefty 165-2 after being asked to bat first. They then restricted Sri Lanka to 155-4 to achieve a famous victory.

Shorna smashed three fours and two sixes in her innings which helped the side propel past 150 runs mark after Prottasha gave the side a whirlwind start. Prottasha's fellow opener Misty Shaha however was run out for 14.

Dilara Akter also played her part well with 36 off 27, an innings studded with three fours and one six.

Marufa Akter took 2-19 to run through Sri Lanka's batting line up. But Sri Lanka still kept them in the hunt thanks to captain Vishmi Gunaratne's 60 not out and Dewmi vihanga's 55.

They kept the side close in on a victory but the Bangladeshi youngsters held the nerve in the death overs to help the side script yet another stunning victory.
