13 to die, 19 get life in Aminbazar murder case

A Dhaka court on Thursday (December 2) awarded death penalty to 13 and life term imprisonment to 19 in a case filed over the killing of six students in Aminbazar on the outskirts of Dhaka 10 years ago.
The other 25 accused in the case were acquitted.
Judge Ismat Jahan of the Second Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court of Dhaka handed down the order.
The death row convicts are Abdul Malek, Sayeed Member, Abdur Rashid, Ismail Hosen, Md Nihar, Nur Hosen, Mujibur Rahman, Anwar Hosen, Rojjob Ali, Md Alam, Md Rony, Abdul Hamid, and Md Aslam Mia.
The 13 were also fined Tk 20,000 each. They were also sentenced to seven years in jail for destroying evidenced in the case.
On July 18, 2011, the night of Shab-e-Barat, seven friends who were students of different schools and colleges in Dhaka took a trip to Bardeshi village near Aminbazar bridge under Savar Police Station and they brutally beaten to death.
Later, police filed the case with the police station against 600 villagers for killing the students.
On January 7, 2013, the charge-sheet in the case was pressed against 60 accused while Dhaka 2nd Additional District and Sessions Judge Md Helal Uddin on July 8, 2013, framed charges against them.
