Stop ‘Rag Day’ in educational institution: HC

The High Court (HC) on Sunday directed to stop all counter-culture including DJ parties, indecent dancing, bullying, obscenity and nudity in the name of ‘Rag Day’ in educational institutions within 30 days.

An HC bench comprising Justice M Mojibur Rahman Mia and Justice Ahmed Sohel passed the order.

The court also issued a rule asking the authorities to explain in four weeks why their inaction in stopping such activities at the institutions should not be declared illegal.

Secretaries to the ministries of education, cultural affairs, and information and broadcasting; vice-chancellors of universities concerned, inspector general of police; chairman of University Grants Commission and director-general of Secondary Education Board have been made respondents to the rule.

Lawyer Mohammad Kamrul Hasan appeared for the writ petition. Deputy Attorney General Bepul Bagmar represented the state during hearing of the petition.

Earlier, the writ petition was filed in the High Court seeking directions to stop DJ parties, bullying, obscenity and nudity in the name of Rag Day in various educational institutions of the country.

Supreme Court lawyer Mohammad Kamrul Hasan filed the writ petition on April 7 in the concerned branch of the High Court.
