4 Banglalink officials get bail in James' case

A Dhaka court on Monday (December 6) granted temporary bail to four top officials of Banglalink Digital Communications Limited, a leading mobile phone operator, in a case filed by musician James.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court Judge KM Emrul Kayesh passed the order after the accused in the case surrendered before the court, seeking permanent bail in the case, additional public prosecutor Taposh Kumar Paul conformed the matter to media.
The additional prosecutor said four officials the mobile phone operator were granted temporary bail the copyright case filed by musician.
The four officials are Banglalink Digital Communications' CEO Erik Aas, Chief Compliance Officer M Nurul Alam, Chief Corporate Regulatory Officer Taimur Rahman and Head of VAS Anik Dhar.
According to case documents, Banglalink is using several of James' songs as caller tunes and welcome tunes, and in advertisements which is a violation of copyright laws.
On November 10, James filed the case with the court against the five officials for their alleged involvement in violating copyright laws.
On November 30, the same court granted them ad-interim bail until Monday. The court fixed for the next hearing of the case January 5, 2022.
